All measurements are approximate but very close. They have been provided primarily in English, as well as in metric measurements for the benefit of our overseas guests and for sad British bureaucrats who ought to know better.
Although many adaptations have been made to Atlantic House over the years, the essential Edwardian character of the house remains. We and our predecessors have done as much as we can to make our house as accessible as we can for all, but inevitably we are unable to alter some aspects without making fundamental changes to the structure. For example, all our bedrooms are on the first floor, and it is impractical to install lift access to these; therefore we are not able to accommodate those with severe disabilities. However, being a small business, we are able to provide a personal service and assistance where necessary.
There is parking in the unadopted lane outside, which is unlit and has an uneven surface. We have lighting outside the house and torches are always available for walking up to the village (3/5 minutes’ walk).
Assistance is offered if necessary with luggage from the car. The local bus service is First Western National 37 from Redruth Station via Helston to Lizard Village.
The entrance to Atlantic House from the lane is up two 6″ (152mm) high steps with a single gateway 3’1″ (940mm) wide. Then up a slight incline to a sliding porch door, max opening 2’9″ (838mm), with a step 10″ (254mm) high. Once in the porch there are two further steps, the first 6″ (152mm) high, then an inner porch with a step 5″ (127mm) high. This leads to the hall, which has a short-piled carpet.
The Dining Room leads off the hall, with a doorway 2’8″ (812mm) wide; this also has a short-piled carpet. It has one central large dining table. There are also two comfortable chairs in the bay window with a coffee table for guests’ use as arranged.
The stairs to the first floor have a short-piled carpet and are 2’9″ (838mm) wide. There are nine stairs to the first quarter landing, then one step to the next quarter landing and six further stairs to the top. Each tread is 7″ (178mm) high by 10″ (254mm) deep.
All bedrooms are off the square landing and have a short piled carpet. The shower rooms have vinyl flooring with a 2’8″ (812mm) shower tray and an electric shower over, a hand basin and a toilet. Doorways to all first floor rooms are 2’5″ (736mm) wide.
The Kynance Room has a 5′ (1523mm) wide king-size bed, 2′ (610mm) high and 6’6″ (1982mm) long, with approximately 2’2″ (661mm) clearance all around.
The Caerthillian Room has a 6′ (1829mm) wide super-king or twin 3′ (915mm) beds, 2’4″ (711mm) high, with between 1’4″ (406mm) and 2’11” (890mm) clearance all around.
The Pentreath Room has a 5′ (1523mm) wide king-size bed, 2’4″ (711mm) high, and between 2’7″ (787mm) and 3’3″ (991mm) clearance all around.
Towels and flannels are provided for all rooms.
Each bedroom has its own key-ring, with a room key and a front door key, so that guests can come and go as they please.
We have a list of emergency telephone numbers and would offer assistance during the night if required.
All areas are well lit and there is emergency lighting in case of a power failure. There is full fire protection throughout with a new fire alarm.
Menus and guests’ information can be provided in large print.
Mobile telephone reception is poor in the area for many networks. Vodafone and O2 seem to be the worst. Orange, Virgin, EE and Edge work best here. Our landline telephone is available for emergency use.
Assistance is offered whenever requested, where possible.
